Cosplay Set: A Survivor is Born by Fernando and Lilia
Check out this incredible set of photos from photographer Fernando Brischetto & cosplayer Lilia. Both from Argentina, the pair traveled to Mexico to capture the perfect mood for Lara’s latest adventure. The effort is so outstanding that I took a few moments to chat with each of them about their collaboration.
Thoughts from Fernando of Photography Sans Frontieres
“Being a fan of Tomb Raider, when I heard of the new Tomb Raider coming I proposed to Lilia Lemoine to cosplay the new reborn Lara Croft. After seeing the “Turning Point” trailer we were thrilled. We traveled to Mexico as we knew it would be the perfect landscape for the shoot, not only inspired by the game scenario, but from Lara’s spirit of adventure and being a born survivor. The Mayan ruins, the rocky beaches, the jungle and natural caves of the Yucatan Peninsula were all awesome. We scouted for one or two places and ended up going to five different locations. We even walked to a beach that was three miles away to have a quiet spot. Lilia did the FX for the wounds and the overall look. Of course, the people on the streets of the Mayan Riviera were a bit surprised with Lara and her bow walking around, beaten by the wreckage. I don’t think you guys will be interested in the photography gear, so I will let the pictures speak for themselves! Enjoy!”

Thoughts by Lilia Lemoine
“When I first thought about cosplaying Lara, I didn’t know if it would look good on me. But after doing some photo tests with Fernando, I decided to give it a try. I’m a special FX artist, so the makeup and styling were not a problem. I’m also an actress and I used all of my acting skills while shooting. And shooting in the wild is a serious thing! I like the new Lara because she is real, she could be one of us. What she says in the “Turning Point” trailer sounds very inspiring.
Creating the outfit was complicated because you have to fight the ideas you have about the previous Lara, and try to capture what the concept artist was thinking when drawing this new one. I love to follow artwork as a total guide for looks, and think about the character’s soul to understand why she looks how she looks; a real heroine, a girl that turns into a wild and brave woman. We traveled to Mexico to take the pictures, so we had amazing landscapes. And finally, Fernando’s guidance during the shots really made things happen!”
You can find Lilia on Facebook in both English and Spanish, and on YouTube.
